Speaker: Bryan Hurd, CISSP, CISA, CISM, MBA, CCCI, CCFT

Bryan Hurd is a Managing Director in Stroz Friedberg’s Seattle office where he directs engagements involving cybercrime and data breach response, information security, digital forensics, intellectual property protection, and electronic discovery. Bryan has more than 25 years of experience in computer forensics, counterterrorism, and intelligence leadership roles.

Prior to joining Stroz Friedberg, Bryan was the Director of Intelligence for the Microsoft Cyber Crime Center and has held executive leadership positions in an artificial intelligence start-up company as well as other commercial organizations, the military and in government.

Bryan’s accomplishments include creating the first Cyber Counterintelligence program for the US Navy at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). His notable cases during this time encompass being the lead Department of Defense analyst for the Moonlight Maze, one of the first widely known cyber espionage campaigns in world history, where he authored the final FBI national report on the matter. Bryan also led investigations and analytics for one of the first massive identity theft attacks targeting flag officers (commissioned officers in the armed forces senior enough to be entitled to fly a flag to mark the position from which the officer exercises command) across the United States.

Other achievements entail spearheading the innovation for the entire US watchlisting system as the Chief of Operations, Director of Terrorist Identities at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). He received a Director of National Intelligence award for the Terrorism Case Management System for US watchlisting, which drastically improved the national response to the Boston Marathon bombing event.

Bryan is also an adjunct professor and keynote speaker at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies’ Program on Countering Transnational Organized Crime (CTOC). He frequently is invited to speak with various groups and forums such as SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) International, a professional association and standards development organization for the engineering industry that focuses on transport sectors such as automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicles; NAFER (The National Association of Federal Equity Receivers), a group of leading professionals in the area of receivership, insolvency, bankruptcy, restructuring, and international asset recovery; ISC2 (International Information System Security Certification Consortium), a non-profit organization which specializes in training and certifications for cybersecurity professionals described as the “world’s largest IT security organization; the InfoSec Institute, a technology training company that provides certification courses for security and technology professionals; and the CyberRisk Alliance.

Bryan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, received an MBA from the University of Maryland, and holds numerous certifications in computer security, antiterrorism, and computer forensics.
