A proactive approach to Digital Forensic Incident Response (DFIR) matters can save not only time and valuable resources but overall response costs as well. Having a DFIR plan as well as conducting testing and training around the plan will ensure an efficient and effective response. Being prepared to address an incident when it occurs is the first step in overcoming and surviving the incident.

Mr. Maryman is an experienced computer forensics and cyber investigations consultant. Prior to founding Maryman & Associates in 2001, he served as a Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for over 29 years. During that time, Mr. Maryman conducted and supervised investigations, served as an Information Systems Administrator, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Security Programs Manager.

In 1991 he founded the FBI’s first Computer Analysis Response Team (CART) and served as its team leader.  Mr. Maryman has served as Chairman and Member-at-Large of the advisory board to the Director of the FBI on computer and information systems. He is the developer and author of the FBI’s IT Disaster Recovery policy and protocols. Drawing on his years of training and experience with U.S. Government Inspections processes, he has entered into consulting agreements with corporations and public agencies to perform inspections and special analysis reviews.

Mr. Maryman serves on the University of Southern California (USC) Information Technology Program Advisory Board and is a frequent guest lecturer at USC on digital forensics.

Dr. Joseph Greenfield is the Vice President and Chief Forensic Examiner with Maryman & Associates, where he has worked for the last thirteen years. His experience with Windows and Linux servers includes intrusion investigation, investigation of corporate espionage and employee espionage, and email recovery and analysis.

He is also an Associate Professor of Information Technology Practice at the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. In 2014, the Ponemon Institute ranked USC as 6th in the nation for “Best Schools for Cybersecurity” and the highest ranked on the West Coast.

Dr. Greenfield completed his Ph. D. in Computer Science at the University of Rhode Island, where his research focused on the ability to perform file analysis over all live files in parallel with forensic bitstream disk imaging.
