The Biden administration has identified cybersecurity as a national security and economic security focus, and has implemented new regulations, expanded existing authorities, and pursued related enforcement actions in furtherance of policies related to the same. Attorneys from Squire Patton Boggs LLP will present on watershed cyber threat moments from the past 12 months (including the unprecedented use of cyberattacks as a tool of warfare), the Biden administration’s response, and the practical and legal implications of these developments for the private sector.

 Ericka is a senior associate in the Government Investigations & White Collar Practice. As part of her practice, Ericka advises domestic and multinational companies on cybersecurity risks, internal compliance measures and incident response protocols. Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, Ericka served for six years as Judge Advocate in the US Marine Corps, where she specialized in complex litigation and providing domestic and international compliance advice to General Officers. She continues to serve as reserve general counsel to commanding officers in the Washington DC area. As a Judge Advocate, Ericka served as the primary legal advisor to NATO and US combat commands, advising General Officers on the legal ramifications and international/domestic legalities and policies for the planning and execution of more than 980 NATO and US-led operations.

Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, Gicel served as a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, where her practice focused on healthcare privacy and competition investigations and enforcement. Gicel was also previously a government contractor with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights, where she investigated and enforced healthcare privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations.
